Cleft lips and palates are one of the most common birth defects. Clefts occur more frequently in males than females. A cleft lip is a physical split or separation of the two sides of the upper lip and appears as a narrow opening or gap in the skin of the upper lip. Whereas, a cleft palate is an opening/gap in either side (i.e left/right side) or both sides (bilateral)of roof inside mouth between nose to throat which allows food passage from mouth to throat directly without passing through normal path i.e towards stomach via esophagus which helps us swallow food easily.
